I have worked as as surgeon and researcher at the Department of Transplantation Surgery at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, since 1987. Since 2000 I am the Chairman of the department. Clinically, I mainly work with kidney, pancreas, islet transplantation and donation issues. I am also Associate Professor at Karolinska Institutet. My research fields have included pancreas and islet transplantation, xenotransplantation and ethics. I have been a member of the Transplantation Society's Ethics Committee since 2002 and chaired the Committee during the period 2006-2010. Since 2010 I am instead member of the Council of the Transplantation Society. I am also the President of the Swedish Transplantation Society and council member of IXA and ESOT. During the years I have thus aquired both clinical experience as well as experience from research policy making and administration in our field that I hope can be useful in a mentor programme.

Of course there is also a private side of life. When I am off duty I give priority to training my two dogs and to be out the nature. I am also interested in antiques, art and spending time with my 3-year old godson.
