Dr. West is a clinician-scientist at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, where she is Professor of Pediatrics, Surgery and Immunology, Medical Director of the Alberta Pediatric Heart Transplant Program and Director of Heart Transplantation Research. Her clinical area of expertise is pediatric heart transplantation and transplant immunology. Her research interests include basic immunobiology in murine and porcine models, including the topics of neonatal tolerance and B cell biology, as well as translation of basic concepts and findings from animal models to clinical application. The overall umbrella of Dr. West’s transplant research program also includes drug therapy strategies in pediatric transplant populations and outcomes analyses, including quality-of-life outcomes of pediatric organ transplantation. Dr. West is incoming President (2011-12) of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and a member of the steering committee for the Women in Transplantation initiative of The Transplantation Sociey.
